A note to future compilers
The Rev. Harvey E. Crowell, pastor of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1912-1937
made valuable contributions in assembling and recording many details in St.
Mark’s history. His project, compiled for inclusion in the 1923 cornerstone,
reflected what apparently was his keen interest in history. He wrote in part:
“We shall take a brief time to quote from some
of the notations we have made as pastor concerning our work in trying times
and then conclude this bit of narrative which may prove interesting to some
other member or friend of St. Mark’s Church in the years when this Corner-stone
which we now lay, in the Good Providence of God, be again opened in the view
of the human eye.” Pastor Crowell wrote two brief sketches “into the innermost
chambers of the heart” for those “who open the Corner-stone in after years.”
With his words in mind we add the following information about the credentials
of the compilers of this history.
HILBRINK, Eugenia A. (Colflesh): born April 8, 1928, Cleveland Ohio; B.A.,
1950 College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio; M.S. (Counseling) Wright State University,
1983, Fairborn Ohio. Joined St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, November 19, 1950.
First paid parish worker of St. Mark’s, August 1952-December 31, 1953. Active
in Dorcas Missionary Society and served as its president, superintendent of
the Sunday church school for three years, served on church council January,
1995-December, 1997. Teacher of secondary mathematics, Fairborn, (O) City Schools
for 21 years.
HILBRINK, Bernard J.; born May 19, 1926, Cleveland,
Ohio; B.A., 1949, Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio; joined St. Mark’s
Lutheran Church, November 19, 1950; editor, Fairborn Daily Herald, 1949-1985;
editorial administrator, Fairborn Daily Herald, 1985 to present.
