Paul's Letter To The Ephesians

Home Up Next

INTRODUCTION

AUTHOR:  Only a few critics deny that Paul is the author.

DATE WRITTEN:  Probably between 60-63 A.D. while Paul was in prison in Rome.

TO WHOM WRITTEN:  Uncertain.  The words “to the Ephesians” are not in the oldest and best Greek New Testament manuscripts.  The letter may have been intended as a circular letter to several churches, including the one at Ephesus.

PURPOSE:  Paul writes these Christians for at least two reasons:

  1. To reveal the purpose of God for the whole universe.  God has shown His purpose through His Son, Jesus Christ, and He is working out His purpose through the Church, which is His body on earth.

  2. To encourage the Church to walk in a spirit of oneness and unity.

Ephesians has been called “The Queen of the Epistles.”  It is probably the most loved of all Paul’s letters.  It gives theological understand along with practical guidance for living the Christian life.
