History

St. Mark's Church is a beautiful structure of Tudor-Gothic Architecture, built of Kenilworth brick in matte surface and having rich shades of brown predominating. St. Mark's was designed by Robert C. Gotwald, Architect, of Springfield, Ohio.  Architect Gotwald was a student of the Lutheran Architecture and the rich symbolism it affords. This symbolism is shown in the Stain Glass through out the church.

Dedicated with the church in 1924, the Stain Glass windows are the most predominate and most admired feature of the Sanctuary. The windows throughout the church are of European Antique Art Glass. The Glass was made by The Von Gerichten Art Glass Company that had Studios in Columbus, Ohio and in Munich, Germany. Most of the panels in the Sanctuary bear symbols that represent the Lutheran Church. Above the Altar is a beautiful four-panel window of the Resurrection. The shield in the left-side panel bears the words "I am the Resurrection and Life," and the one on the right, "Death is Swallowed Up in Victory."    In  the foreground of the picture behind the Resurrected Savior stands three crosses.  The windows together with the pews and structure of the building harmonize with the Gothic style of the building.
